Dishwasher not emptying - what's wrong?

My dishwasher won't empty now and stops early with the bottom full of water. The out hose comes out the back of the dishwasher and runs up about 50cm and pops into a plastic outlet pipe which goes out the wall.

I thought the pipe must be blocked somewhere so I lay it on the floor and the water poured out but as soon as I raised it up a bit it stopped. I'm thinking maybe the pump is not able to pump the water up to the pipe now whereas it had been able to in the past.

How would I be able to tell for sure is it the pump? Could it be a blockage somewhere?

the pump needs to run to pump out water, it is either blocked with something like a piece of glass or worn but highly unlikely to be worn. you haven't mentioned the make but you will find the pump at the end of the outlet hose, if you get that far open it and remove the restriction. the only reason for pump blockage is not fitting the base filter into position correctly
