MK2 Ford Focus, several problems when bought

Hi all. Bought my 09 focus in January. It went into the main dealer last friday for a major service. However after 2 phone calls the list and price shot up.

Long story short my front pads and discs were shot, dealer says they would've been at the very least border line when the car was bought.

The other issue is the front and rear bushes as well as the rear trailing arms are also shot. Again the dealer says the car was almost certainly like that when purchased.

Warranty expired 2 weeks ago but i've asked the dealer to repair it as the car was,in the opinion of the main dealer, unsafe when sold.

I've done 4500 miles mostly motorway since i bought it.

Main dealer quoted €620 for the bushes and arms alone.

What are fellow boardsies opinions??? The reason i ask is i am mindful of prime time last thursday and suspension. The car went through the nct in March 2015. Could the suspension deteriorate that much in that time???

    N.B

Car dealer had car on his forecourt from November to mid January inclusive without being used. So the suspension could've deteriorated that much in 8 months???

Don't have a copy of the nct report and that the test itself is not a guarantee and only a snapshot in time.

    And what did they say?

I think you'll be very lucky if they cover it. But they'll probably repair it for you cheaper than the main dealer. You might be able to knock a bit off it with them too.

They've agreed to repair it as if the warranty was still in date. Have to ring back in the morning to arrange. Gave them a copy of the main dealer report. The trailing arms need doing also and they know it. They are a S.I.M.I registered company whether that means anything is a different story.

Fair play. What does the warranty cover?

The entire car thankfully. It's a 2009. 1.6 diesel. Already had an issue with it previously which they sorted. Initially the owner of the garage was reluctant before i told him i have changed my car every 2 years with him and that unless this was sorted i would consider my options and wouldn't be a future customer. Having gotten legal advice from the family solicitor they are obliged to repair it if the issue was there prior to purchase. I was told by Ford the problem has been there a considerable (unspecified) amount of time. How often do bushes and trailing arms fail? Every few years for bushes, never had problems with trailing arms before though.
