Hydraulic Valve to control brake

    Hi All,

I'm working a prototype where i need to control the hydraulic pressure to a brake caliper. I need to do this in a proportional way so I can control various different levels of braking. I would also like the brake to fail safe (on) if the power is cut.

I believe i need a 3 port 3 position proportional valve with a spring return. So the solenoid would need full power to release the brakes, as i reduce the power (PWM) to the valve it should apply the brakes more.

The closest diagram i can find is this one: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-k29eUj5wMIs/VZdLXuW4YII/AAAAAAAACew/7KKbtsHY9i4/s1600/Systems%2BOperation%2B2.gif

Item number 27 in the bottom left corner looks like what i need.

Has anyone ever done this with hydraulics before?
