Rent Supplement - rented house in receivership

A friend who is claiming JSA wasn't aware of Rent Supplement. When they went to claim it, they were told they were ineligible due to the house they are renting being in receivership.

This seems grossly unfair as the status of the house is irrelevant; And the rent still has to be paid.

They have been renting the house for six years.

    Were they given correct information?

how is the status of the house "irrelevant "?
The house is not in receivership, it's the landlords "business " that's in receivership
So your friend is no longer paying any rent to the landlord
Who is she paying her rent too?

Irrelevant in the context of Rent Supplement's purpose - to provide assistance to the claimant in paying their rent, regardless of the landlord's status.

Rent is being paid to the receiver

I think they're being sold a pup. They can appeal. If they kick up a fuss, more likely than not they will get the rent supplement. I think what it may be is the rent board have a target of number for people to reject. The house being in receivership is irrelevant, if the receiver is getting paid rent.

Who filled in the landlord part of the form?

Who filled in the landlord part of the form?

It's not hugely important. But, if they're paying rent to a receiver, the receiver is the landlord, and by law the landlord must sign the rent book. The rent book goes to the rent allowance section with the rent allowance application.

If the receiver is acting as landlord, they're obliged by law to fill out all relevant forms etc.
