I have a flight a good many years ago with flightwise.ie and loved it, very informal and friendly. I never went back because I didn't have the money.

Now that I understand flightwise is closed, are there any other friendly, informal flight schools or instructors in Weston or even further counties?

    Such a pit it's gone...:(

My first flight was with Flightwise, through a gift voucher. They only had 2 aircraft and I didn't find them very professional so I went over to NFC in Weston. Loads of aircraft so never a problem getting air time when the weather allowed.

It's a pity because fw were always cheaper than nfc. The cheapest I saw fw was €165 per hour this would have been back in about 2011-2012. But it was always about 185 per hours. nfc are considerably more.

Try Newcastle, Wicklow (http://www.einc.ie/). I'm an active member of the flying club there, they have a large fleet, plenty of instructors etc, most importantly you get scenery there like nowhere else on east coast, so bring your camera!

it is - not a huge one, but still manages to produce some 3-5 PPLer's every year. I did my PPL there start to finish, students know and support each other and most importantly - after you finish up your PPL, you're not stuck, there's always a plane around to rent or share to buy etc which is not always the case with other schools

What sort of money do EINC charge for dual & solo hire?
I have a PPL and just curious what rates they charge.

If nothing has changed, solo rates are:
    Cessna 172 €185.00
    Cessna 150 €165.00
    Socata Rallye €150.00
    Piper Cherokee €185.00

    Instructor (dual) is/was 35 extra

Full Motion Sim (instructor included) was €50.00 over winter, wouldn't be too surprised if it has gone up, as it's a very valuable tool for IR training and currency during winter..

    Locals/members/students don't pay landing fees

I can't image this to ever have been true. Sure there has always been loads of permit aircraft based at EINC. The RV,s are based there and on permits.

    Thanks for this.

Somebody told me that there is a Piper Cub for training/hire. Do you know anything about that?

No Cub in the club I'm afraid, closest thing on offer was luscombe, but for insurance reasons it wasn't available for low-hour ppl'ers. I'm using past tense as I'm not sure if it's still there or available.

Not nonsense. certain members of ILAS are banned from there, by order of management. Permit aircraft have been turned away as they came into land. This I know because I was there waiting to greet one of them and the aircraft was refused permission to land. No Cubs available for tailwheel tuition.

I know nothing about any politics down in EINC but I suppose as a private airfield the owner has the right to refuse aircraft.

Why would an aircraft not have phoned EINC and got "PPR" as is required before commencing their flight? Poor airmanship to just fly over to a private airfield and give a call on the radio expecting to be able to land.

so it's the pilots that are banned, not the aircraft... when I was departing for my solo xcountry, some 3 cubs turned up and crossed me right under my departure path with just a hundred or two feet to spare trying to locate the field (green field on green surroundings = not good). Not a nice feeling. Visitors are always welcomed no matter what they're flying as long as they follow the protocol to call up before hand and ask permission. Circuit can get busy with students and management will pull people out of visitors way just to ensure safety. But if nobody knows you're coming, don't expect people to be happy about it. And yes, owner of the airfield does feel very strongly about individuals who smash their machines down on a soft runway following full application of brakes where there's no need for it. So really I can't comment if someone is banned for something, it's down to them

you're not aware of the facts, Martin, regarding the ban on ILAS aircraft. Pilots who were not involved in anyway with a certain dispute were told to get their aircraft out of EINC; some were allowed to stay. No reasons or explanation given to some individuals or to ILAS as a group. Like I said, I was waiting to greet a Permit aircraft one day and it was turned away on finals. Naturally, I was pissed off with that, as an arrangement had been made and was disrupted....I know nothing about any incident with three Cubs or where they came from or who was in them or any "full application of brakes" event. I only go to EINC now, if I absolutely have to, to meet aircraft owners, if they can't come to me. Which is a shame , because it's a nice field in a great location.

    regards

you're right, I'm sorry, I don't know what's the story there so I shouldn't be commenting. I wasn't trying to suggest that ILAS are somehow responsible for the incidents I mentioned, I was just highlighting some of the things that could be upsetting enough to cause disputes. Can you shed some light on what the dispute was all about? This is the first time I'm hearing about this really. You can PM me if you don't think this belongs out in the open

    Martin, check your PMs.

thanks, I was not aware of this, seeing permit aircraft frequently coming and going I honestly thought this is just some false rumor
