Sorry about the title but no doubt yer all sick of slatted shed etc threads!

Farming about 40 acres at home, hobby stuff I know but I love it. We outwinter what we have which between sucklers/offspring/heifers is 20/25 depending. Dad is reluctant to change but slowly I'm getting around him on different things

I'm struggling looking at land getting cut up every year and then struggling to recover! No matter what way I do the sums building a slatted shed doesn't add up! So just wondering any suggestions on a different way to get them in over the winter?

Any neighbours could rent you space in their sheds - or rent a sacrificial field for the winter?

Dad holds the reigns pretty tight! He's a great stock man really and as hardy if not hardier than me and he's 60! I honestly think he enjoys the hardship in the winter!

He did this years ago but he wasn't happy with how much they went back! The cattle don't suffer they're always content it's just looking out into a field of muck especially around the ring feeders kills me!!

Any forestry near you? Hear some people winter cattle in forestry as it provides good cover. Maybe you could sacrifice a field and reseed it in the spring. This winter was very bad for out wintering

True it was particularly harsh this year. W have a small bit ourselves and they venture in from time to time. Ah I suppose it might just be me being odd. Outwintering has worked for three generations of my family so far
