Hi all, I'd love some good advice/knowledge/opinions here. A bit stumped on what to buy.

Currently driving a '06 citroen 1.6 diesel, but it's on the way out. Don't know what to get to replace it.

Mostly city (Dublin) driving weekdays, with some motorway action/trips down the country at weekends.

Fuel economy (prob happy to stay at 1.6) and reliability is most important, followed by a bit of space, and as new as possible. I'd like to get minimum 2013. Could stretch the budget a bit if necessary.

    Want to view in Dublin...

Thanks to all in advance - any input would be greatly appreciated

Am in similar space to you, with a similar budget.

The Petrol Dacia's are just about within Budget for a new one, but I want a little more space.

But most of the 2010/2012 1.6 diesels on the market now seem to have too make miles on them for my liking.

For me, the car seems to be the Octavia/Passat/SMax, basically 3 kids in the back, and a good boot.

Have you considered a Hybrid, a 2010 Pruis would be in your price range.

    Thanks for the ideas/insights @Gerardkeating!

I'm going to look into those other types you suggested. Have been half-thinking Prius for a while now, but I see they're v expensive s/h - they hold their value well!

The Auris is also available as a hybrid and tend to be cheaper than the Prius:

Lexus CT200H is also a hybrid and uses the same hybrid drivetrain as the Prius/Auris:

thanks so much @Bazz26, great suggestions! That lexus is outside the box in my book - would never have thought of looking at a lexus! Was having a wee look at smaller Toyotas and Opels this morning, they look good for my purposes alright. Hadn't spotted that hybrid though, so thanks for that.

Don't rule the Lexus out because it's a Lexus. It's mechanically the same as an Auris hybrid. Bit like an Audi A3 is like a Golf.
They aren't as well known as the Prius, so you can get them very handy money, especially in the uk.

    In a similar boat myself.
Have 2005 A4 Avant. Thinking of something like a Skoda Octavia Estate or maybe an Insignia estate maybe around 2012 or 131.
Will have to be 131 or more in the Octavia for the newer model which I would prefer if going for the Octavia

if you like your a4 the seat exeo might be worth a shot. same basic car but with the new engines and better multimedia.
still an old design but If you like your own car this will be familiar.
