Some fancy figures with cross breeds
17k/year more profit from crosses over HF and that allows for bad cull and bull calf value.

Would have been interesting if he had compared a high yielding herd to the crossbred. The hf herd were only doing 5200L or so.

That is low however not exceptionally low, we've been between 5400 and 5600 delivered with quite a milky cow last few yrs, I'll admit straight out poor fertility, too many carryovers and a very average winter diet. The solids of the HF aren't too shabby either, 3.49pr and 4.11bf, will you get that if you try pump out 7kl+? I'm hoping to quickly climb to around 6500l delivered without carryovers here btw.

Cull rates I assume are not factored into that study?

Hoping to deliver 6500l this year, have been at 3.5p 4.05bf for the last few years. And hope to get back to 7k delivered if I can once numbers settle. Again fert and no carryovers a big part of it but lads on here doing it so no reason we can't aim for it. Thing is in a study like that they were comparing herds which seemed to be fed similar levels yet a big difference in cow size perhaps if the HF was fed that bit extra and the cost and return shown for the different milk price performance and profit may have been different. No issue with crossbreds would just prefer comparisons in profit when each type of cow is treated in the system which suits the cow as would be more info for us to take from it what we will.
