How to find out if someone has died

    As per title.

    I am trying to find out if there is any way too find out if someone has passed away.
    Ive tried some of the online sites, Deaths.ie , Rip.ie etc, to no avail.

    Looking for a relative of a friend, who may or may not have passed away over the years, they would be in their 70's, if alive

    When i did search for deaths registry in Ireland it brings me to geneology web sites.

    Is there any official online website, where one can check?
    Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this, wasnt sure where to post, to be honest.

    Death register indices are not made public online until 50 years after the event currently. You need a substantial amount of information to obtain a death certificate otherwise.

    wow, 50 years, did not know that. Seems very long time

    Just for record, dont need death cert, just wanted to find out if person was alive or deceased.
