Satelite and Saorview on a single cable?

    Hi,

I am in the process of planning a satellite setup to replace existing Virgin Media (VM) tv setup.
I currently have the VM cable coming into the attic and connecting to a box in there, from that box I have a coax cable in the attic running down the cavity wall and coming out at a t.v. point downstairs.

When I dump VM and install a satellite dish I plan to have the cable from the dish running into the attic and connecting to the existing coax that will output at my t.v. point downstairs. In order to get RTE1 and 2 I understand I also need to install a Saorview aerial (in the attic) which will require it's own cable to the tv/tuner downstairs.

I cannot run a second cable down the cavity from the attic to the tv point (I had the cavity pumped with insulation) so I am looking for solution. I saw this, cable stacker, mentioned on another thread. Could this solve my problem? Plug the two cables into the stacker in the attic, connected the existing coax, have the stacker split them on the other end?

    Thanks.

    This should help: http://www.freetv.ie/blog/how-to-combine-a-satellite-and-tv-aerial/

You may need to investigate further if you will be having more than one satellite input.

A satellite feed and Saorview aerial feed can be fed down a single cable without interfering with each other, a simple combiner/splitter will do the job, one at each end. Satellite feed via the power pass leg.

The quality of your aerial feed will depend on what the Saorview signal is like where you locate the aerial. In a strong signal area it should work in the attic but can be affected by local interference.

If you plan on having a satellite recorder/PVR then two feeds from the dish will be required, this is where the stacker/destacker comes in, 1 sat feed to each stacker input. It's also possible to combine the aerial feed with one of the sat feeds connected to the LNB 2 Input (47MHz - 2150 MHz) on the stacker using the combiner/splitter combination mentioned previously.

When using a stacker to feed 2 sat signals to a TV point the cable quality between the stacker and destacker is very important due to higher frequencies used.
