I have to cancel my current motor insurance policy & switch to another provider in order to get my eldest (learner permit holder) covered at a reasonable rate so my plan was to take out new policy, once new cert & disc arrived, then cancel the current one but not sure if this is the correct procedure as the car will technically be covered by two policies at the same time, do I have to be very specific as regards the exact time new policy starts & current policy ends?

Any insurance conpany I've dealt with let you chose the start date and time for the insurance. So for example tell existing company to cancel policy from 6 pm today and have new policy take over from 6:01

That's what I'm thinking is the correct way, cheers
