I have FTTH and upload has been 95mb from day one but yesterday I got a call from eir to say BB would be down for an hour. Today about 4pm my upload went from 95mb to 28mb which is a pain but is this down to eir and why reduce it? its still showing 28mb.

    stumped.

ps I should add about this time I wa trying to add skype and caused me grief.

What package are you on? Lowest ftth is 150-30. Were you on a trail 1G package prior to commercial launch?

You'd want to feed that back to Eir themselves as it could be something hasn't been connected up correctly after maintenance. There was no change to the product.

I went on chat this morning and no joy. I seem to think I was offered 1gb down and 100mb up back in November.

I cant find any details on their website re what the profile is. My package is called eir Fibre Solo .

And further down its says eir fibre extreme on the bill. I have now found the page that says

    eir Fibre Extreme 1000Mb 1024000kbps / 102400kbps

I rang tech support and to say support for FTTH was poor is an understatement, I was on phone and chat for a long long time, at one stage I was told I was not even connected to the internet while I was on chat!! all I did was a modem reset and still same. In other words they were not able to do anything. I was asked to monitor speed for 24 hours and then contact them again. It would appear it is not easy to switch back profile so whoever did that maintenance is either from out of town or is not even aware they have cocked up.

    more anon

PS I should add that the guy in tech support did everything to try and sort it, went away to chat with techies etc and took quite a while trying to figure out a solution. I did get an incident number as well.I got the distinct impression they dont get a lot of calls re FTTH .... yet!!

FTTH would be a few thousand subs of around 800k total, you're a unicorn for them.

Sounds like a botched config at the OLT. With ADSL or VDSL they can issue a port reset command but as its a shared medium I doubt thats possible.

Get the next person you speak to refer it to openEir.

its now been escalated to works management. Is it the OLT at my end or elsewhere? The initial install looked a bit wonky as I think they used an adaptor and I did post a few pics.

ONT: Fiber Modem in your house (the small box beside your modem)
OLT: Fiber Modem in the exchange

Sounds like they need at least 2 or 3 staff trained uo for FTTH calls!

ed e they called but are lost, they call one box in my house the olt and the one next to it the ont!! They were thinking of doing a reset but I put them off!! They have gone away to investigate. Its a mystery.

yeah that's my set up. This is their first call out re FTTH and they were on the FTTH course a year ago.!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,678 ✭✭✭swoofer

a little update, upload speed is back to 95mb. the explanation given is that when doing maintenance I was put on a temporary port that is fixed at 30mb max upload. Now switched back to correct port and all a ok again.
