Made a mess of my career

I used to work in social care and then I moved into a different industry of work, as at the time I was working in an extremely challenging service which was badly run and I decided I needed to move away from social care for a while.

Having tried the new job industry for a year I've realised it's not for me and I now want to return to social care. I'm so worried though that because I moved away from the field for so long I'll have difficulty getting back into it. I had only worked in social care for a year and a few months also.

I've applied for a lot of social care jobs and not heard back. And if I do get called back, how do I explain why I left social care in the first place? Saying I needed a break from it or the service was badly run don't seem like good responses. I know social care is what I do best and I regret leaving the field so much. I feel like I've made an absolute mess of my career.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

MOD, just realised this forum is moreso aimed at LC students. Could you move it to the appropriate forum for me? Thank you.

There is a thread called Work Problems.

That might be suitable for you.

OP, this is at least the third thread you've had in work and jobs in the past six months in relation to issues/queries about work.

Have you thought about going to see a career coach etc?

Posting recurrent threads here is not going to really get you anywhere.

The best way to explain anything at an interview is to stick very close to the truth, but take a positive slant on it. That way you will not make errors that can be picked up on, it is remarkable easy to pick up on white lies in interviews if people are making it up on the fly.

Give us a little more information and perhaps we can frame a good way to present your decision to leave your first role.
