We'll be making a decision on gutters/downpipes very soon and I'd like to get the cons & pros of Aluminium vs PVC.
We have a site meeting with Architect & builders so they will advise, but no harm having info from people on here that also have experience.

So, could someone list the pro's & con's of each and what they would go for if it didn't come down to cost.

    Similar style build to [URL-snip-this[/URL].

I use alu gutters and pvc downpipes on most projects: gutter is rolled to shape in the van and cut to length to suit: no joints.
Pvc downpipes much easier to work with and don't get crushed

    Thanks Calahonda.

After a talk to our Builder and Architect today we discovered that you can't get seamless half round alu gutters....which is the profile we are looking for.

We may just go for half round light grey pvc gutters and pvc downpipes, there is a saving of about €700 if we go with pvc.
We saw of pictures of a recent project with them and they look good.

Can the colour of pvc gutters/downpipes fade over time?

I am using dark grey on my house and I cant get gutters to match so I am considering hiding the gutter inside the the fascia which should give a good clean look, will most likely use uPVC id say, alu would be well beyond our budget. As far as I know once uPVC it should not fade, anything other than black should be fine you would imagine.

There's Grey PVC Gutters and Downpipes on our 40 year old house and they never faded. Not so you would notice anyway.
