    Hi

Can anyone recommend a travel insurance company as I am heading to the US next month?

I was thinking of Alliance, has anyone had dealings with them?

    Thanks in advance :)

No I haven't. I looked up a few places and there were terrible reviews.

I have never bothered with cover before, but I realise that was a big risk. I know I want it for the US.

I will have a look at getvover, thank you.

Try vhi, I never had to claim TG, I'd say they are all the same.

Or, if you have an ulsterbank u first account (which costs €14 per month) it is a freebie.

same as, we used them every time for ski trips. Was checking out also Blue insurance which does CDW for car rentals, but they seem to do a good travel insurance too. Need to compare policies though.

Be aware that of insurance is purchased a. Tter the flights are booked then you might not be covered for flight cancellations etc.

Alos if you are going to Cuba, be aware, not everyone covers it. It may also apply to other obscure countries.

I've never heard of that  Surely most people don't take out travel insurance until they've booked their flights and are sure they actually will be travelling on the requisite dates.

Yeah, same here. Wouldn't buy insurance til I know travel dates. I think they won't cover you for particular events if you buy it after a strike/etc.. was announced.

    You should ask your insurer.
Most won't alow purchase of flight insurance after flights are paid for.
Most multitrrip insurance runs for a year.

Any insurer with such a constraint would not stay in business too long. Which is probably why I have never seen this.

Not here to debate it with you.
Just want to make sure noone gets a nasty surprise.
It's literally a second to ask if you are covered. Can't imagine why you are making a deal of it.

used blue insurance and they were great had to use them last year as we had a medical emergency before we were due to leave for the states and no problem with payment once we filled in the forms.... You have to have private healt insurance to get cover though

You can get Blue travel insurance without private health cover - just got a quote from them and there's a box you can tick for same online. The premium is a bit higher, but not excessive.

Incidentally, I'm checking out several insurance companies for an upcoming trip and all of them I've got a quote from (Allianz, Blue, InsureandGo, AA) will cover flight cancellation if obtained up to the day before you travel for unforeseen events. If you have to cancel for a personal reason (such as illness or accident) you need to have bought cover before that happens, obviously, but it can be weeks after you've booked your flights.

I usually buy my travel insurance (single trip) shortly after booking my flight anyway - it seems the sensible option in the long run.

We have bought family insurance this year with insureandgo.ie and it was good value.

One thing we always get or ask for is to pay a little extra for the excess waiver, that way you get 100% of your holiday back if you need to cancel it or can claim back medical bills or other expenses paid etc. We don't have private health insurance abroad.

We used getcover.ie last year and our daughter needed to see a GP in France, he charged €50 which we were able to claim back when we get home - no hassle & no excess.
