Upholstery repair, Hog Ring pliers

    Hi guys,

Replacing the adjustable lumbar support on my 2008 Volvo S40. I'll post up step-by-step instructions when it's complete.

Just to be aware, it's a horribly tricky job, but I'm finally at the stage where I've found a number of rings which attach the lumbar support to metal reinforced foam.

Would anyone know where I might buy a pair of these pliers, and also the rings, or suggest a place I could bring the seat foam to get it done?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Just to check - you want to remove, or put in place, these rings?

Those rings can be opened with a pair of internal circlip pliers, stick them in the ring and squeeze, they open up and can be reused with a pair of normal electricians pliers I use the grooves in the jaw to hold the ring in place.

Well, I haven't removed them since it was getting late late night, since I didn't have a sure way of replacing them.
I do have a set up circlip pliers I could use to open up the rings – good idea on that since they’re quite small.

Upholstery it seems is a rotten job and something I’d usually skip myself, but no better way to learn and build a bit of confidence than jump in at the deep end!

I have done a few seats usually when I had to weld the inside of the seat after it cracked.
It is a pain in the B but you get better after a few goes!

Nice one, I'll give the circlips a shot tonight, and if not buy something online.

Any bricks and mortar shops that might stock them?

Got it sorted with the circlip pliers in the end, thanks for the advice. Will upload a tutorial for anyone interested later on.
