Cutting mature ash in summer to re-sprout?

    If I cut a mature ash tree in summer, about 6 feet from the ground and below any branches, will it sprout (copice) again?
    It will have to be done in summer and I'd hope that it would grow a new canopy

    where you're cutting it is closer to pollarding than coppicing; but you're doing it at an unusual time.
