    Hey guys,

I'm working in the middle east and was thinking about getting a 2006 Gulf Spec Toyota Landcruiser Prado 4.0 V6.

Its got 210k km on it, with full main dealer Toyota history. One or 2 early service documents are missing.

I checked and believe the engine uses a chain, not a belt.

Anyone got any thoughts? Are these a good car?

is there much price difference with the land cruiser 100 over there?
over here we would only have got diesel ones.
The prado is plastic enough inside even with extras. the 100 while older has more of a sense of occasion even if it's a good bit dated.

does the 4.0 get air suspension over there?

The 100s are rare enough and many are closing in on the half million km mark.

Yes the Prado here is a VX edition and has the height adjustable air suspension,
Other specs, Sun Roof, Cruise Control, Power Steering, ABS, all Automatic Powered Windows, Retractable side Mirrors, Fridge, Auto Temperature Front and Rear AC, Air Balloon Suspensions, Height Control, 6 Air Bags (Front and Back), Active Traction Control, Downhill Control, Vehicle Stability Control, Engine Braking System, Electronic Modulated Suspension (2 Comfort, 2 Sport), 4 new Dunlop tyres
The inboard fridge works well and is a nice touch! :)

It's an automatic 5 (I think) speed. Has the usual electric locking diff and all that. I took it for a spin today and the it drove great, stopped straight, no rattles. I think I'll go for it.

Just wondering if there's any known issues?

If there are, we won't have heard of them as so little is shared between the models here.

Maybe we have some users out your way, local knowledge would probably be better.

I've been in the Middle East several times as I have family out there while they have never owned a prado they are very popular and a lot of of their friends have them they seem quite reliable I've yet to hear anyone complain about them out there they are the real go too jeep. Very comfortable too from being in them over there. If I was over there looking for a jeep it's probably what I'd buy as I think they are the best out of what's over there in that kind of range.

This is my reckoning on the engines out there in general most are big engines low bhp relative to size (still powerful overall), simple design. Not overly refined or economical they don't need to meet any real emissions requirements either. So removing all the emissions techopnology from them and having Just a big n/a petrol engine leads to them being quite reliable as they are simple. I suppose it all comes down to how this jeep was minded a lot of vehicles out there are not terribly well minded.
