It appears that the new Scenic will have 20" wheels across the range, Renault obviously trying something bold in a dying segment. It's a brave move and will be interesting to see how people take to it. No doubt it will be some oddball size that will cost a bundle to replace.

    They don't look like 20".

    Why the big 20in wheels?

‘We very quickly realised that the R-Space concept car’s large wheels were a fundamental part of its perfectly-balanced silhouette and pleasing proportions,’ said exterior designer Jérémie Sommer. ‘After conversations with the engineering department, the idea was adopted for the new Scenic at a very early stage.’ Great for looks, but it'll spell big bills come time for replacement rubber. Still, Renault promises they won’t compromise the ride as their 107mm sidewalls are proportionally equivalent to the old Scenic’s 17in tyres."

That's because they've put a clio through the photocopier at 150% magnification, but there's no reference in the photo.
They'd look like 20" alright if you put a clio at 100% normal size there as a reference.

I foresee a huge increase in 20" linlong / other ditchfinder supply

In fairness I think it looks interesting, good to see Renault getting it mojo back.

    Interior looks impressive too.

I dunno, I always think huge wheels and tiny brakes never work well together.

Our 2007 Scenic had 205/60/16 tyres rather than the ubiquitous 205/55/16. Each time you rang a tyre shop to get a price you could hear them rubbing their hands together as they'd ask... "are they BMW run flats". Even non run flats cost ~€20 per corner more than the more common size.

I'll believe it when I see it. can't see that doing the emissions or interior space any favours.
maybe they're gonna pitch it as a crossover and introduce a more basic mpv as well.

It is just another version of the captur/kadjar now with shades of the last kia sportage about it.

I like the kadjar, not as a car mind you, but just because it sounds like a plausible cork slang word for a deviant (act) of some sort.

Big wheels ruin the ride. Hard to believe the original Laguna came with 14" wheels.

It looks very like a captur and even the Kadjar is somewhat like the Captur. At least the new Megane looks difference to the 3 of my them. Actually out of all the new range the new Megane is the only one that I think looks anyway nice.

As for the 20 inch alloys I'd be suprised if they make it to Ireland no doubt they will be the generic 16 inch with maybe a 17inch for top spec.

nobody would be talking about the forthcoming scenis I t wasn't for this. id say it's just clever media management.

And they were incredibly comfortable for it

Well they've only gone and done it
20 inch wheels across the range.

    195/55R20

Amazingly GoodYear and Contintal sell these (for around 120-150 online)

    The BMW i3 has 155/70R19

I've seen the future, and it's strange.

I envision 20" Sunnys and Linglongs @€;70 for the masses on these after a few years, not Goodyears or Contis.

Jaysis, a 20 incher with a 195 profile, didn't think they existed. I can see John and Mary having a heart attack and selling the Scenic come tyre changing time, when they need to drop over €700 notes locally to get a new set.

Do the Chinese lads do 20s and above?

Apparently this is the next big thing, and is being pushed by continental in particular. The bigger wheel size gives lower rolling resistance and the tyre itself is more aerodynamic.

The narrower width would mean they dont eat into passenger space as much.

Mental, we may be going back to 1900s style!

There only seems to be premium branded tyres available in that size online anyway.

I remember Renault fitting 17" alloys on certain top spec models of the Laguna II from launch here and they ended up reverting back to 16" for Irish models due customers complaining they were being wrecked.

Seen a bit of this already, they've been using 19's on the Kadjar since it arrived.

They are 225 iirc and the Continentals are very sticky so it makes the Kadjar handle well and feels really good to drive but you'd see people coming in for their first service down to the legal limit on the front tyres.

They'd often have a stroke needing €500 worth of rubber as an add on to a €159 oil change. We used to keep the caredoc on speed dual for when people went down.

There seems to be an unspoken rule that if a service costs more than a PCP payment it's the manufacturers fault and the customer has every right to start flipping desks in the service reception.

I beg to differ. The brakes discs look like Cadburys buttons behind the wheels and I'm not talking about Giant Buttons either!

I've heard of people struggling to get 10k on the Kadjars with them tyres.

That's all I get from fronts on smax - 225/50/17. Last set were Conti and were illegal @10k miles. The current Michelin premacy are at 10k and got an advisory at NCT. Its a killer at €150 per corner every 6 months.

I think the 20s look great on the Scenic and the 19s look great on the BMW i3 just don,t think they would be the best wheels to have for Irish country roads. Fair play to Renault for doing it do and BMW too.
I have seen a couple of the new Scenics in the metal and they look really well. They are lovely diamond cut alloys on them.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
