Cure for Cough/Cold

I have had a cough in my chest for about 3 weeks and cannot get rid of it. I have tried sauna/steam room, "stuff" from health Shop etc. but cannot shift it. I have not gone to my doctor as of yet but it looks like my only solution at this stage unless I get some suggestion from you learned people??!!
