Jaguar to go back to its roots

Great news for fans of straight six engines, Jaguar is joining Mercedes in abandoning the V6, starting next year there will once more be straight six engines in the Jaguar line-up.

It was rumoured when they launched the Ingenium engine last year that it was a modular design, like BMW's latest engines, and therefore could be expanded to a straight six, and it has come to fruition.

Needless to say, Land Rovers will also benefit from the decision to go back to making six cylinder engines the correct way:D. Power output starts from 275 bhp (entry level diesel) and goes all the way up to 500 bhp (top end petrol), so they won't be wanting when it comes to performance. There will also be a 400 bhp diesel so I'm guessing some sort of tri-turbo setup like the X5 and X6 M50d models.

The good news for fans of V8 JLR models is that they will continue to be offered, although it is not clear what engine specifically, as the current V8 is derived from Ford and that contract is due to expire at some point.

It's kind of funny how fuel efficiency rules are bringing back an engine type that was meant to have been killed off :D. Straight sixes are just yummy and everyone should try one at least once in their lives.
