    Hey all,

Looking for some advice. Recently bought above car, but noticing a lot of engine noise whilst driving. Like a considerable difference than my old car Audi A3. Does anyone else have this issue? Its just the general noise of the engine, revs/acceleration and noise of engine just very loud. Does anyone know if this is normal or what fixes can be made to improve this?

    Any advice appreciated

They're probably a bit noisier than your a4.
Exhaust runs under the drivers sill, so easy to check for noises there.
If your a3 was a 1.6 8 valve then they're just a very quiet engine in comparison.

My GF has the 1.8 version and while it doesn't bother her I think engine noise is a bit excessive in it. There isn't a lot of sound deadening in them as wind and road noise are also high. I wouldn't say it's anything to be concerned about.

You could add some sound deadening to the car but that's a time consuming job and the results will vary.

On the 1.8 anyway I reckon it's the exhaust that makes it noisier. Friend has the saloon version and it's noticibly quieter with regards engine noise.

Road noise isn't too much of a problem in my 06 1.4, although it would be louder than most petrol Audis.

thanks for the replys guys, i noticed it considerably when on the motorway, attempting to do a comfortable 120km speed seems that the engine is maxing out and the noise is very very loud, feels more like a 1.0 litre than a 1.4 at that speed
