    Hi

    A quick question on taxation & i'm hoping someone can help me!! I will be going on maternity leave later this year and my contract is pretty dire in relation to what they offer maternity benefit wise. They offer a "top up of 25% of the difference between gross pay and the qualifying benefit from PRSI for the statutory period of leave"

    Say for arguments sake my gross pay is €3000 a month, would I be correct in saying this is calculated by the following;

    230 x 4 = 920. (state maternite= 230) 3000 - 920 = 2080 / = 520 per month. Am I calculating it correctly? Presume this €520 is taxable again then?

    The alternative they offer is full pay for the first 4.5 weeks of Maternity Leave then instead. I'm so confused and disappointed the package is so awful. Any help or advise is much appreciated

    Well they don't have to give you anything at all? That sounds close to being right in terms of calculations however some months will have more than 4 pay weeks in them.

    I know thanks Ciaran, completely agree they don't need to give anything at all its just hard to try and budget. Thanks for coming back to me much appreciated. If the €520 is taxable what would be the take home pay be approximately/ roughly?

    The €520 is taxable but very little tax would be paid as €520 +€920 is so low that your income should be covered by tax credits. Its also possible that you could be getting a tax refund every week.

    If married maybe investigate if you should be transferring tax credits and or cut off points to your spouse so that he will suffer less tax.
