With the 6 months of rain we have had on West coast (and most of country) land is barely traffic able with a quad, never mind a tractor.Apart from one dry spell in mid March rain esp at night has been steady:(...forecast is for a dry week but a return to cold temperatures and possible ground frosts at night next week.

Need to get grass coming for Suckler cows and sheep.Typically only spread once a yr for grazing ground with 18:6:12 as with land quality you don't get it dry enough to get into for too long😀

Prob good few others in same boat....even people with 'good' ground. So would ye chance out fertiliser this wkd/early next week(if ground could take tractor)....or wait until weather gets milder.....whenever that may be!

I'm in the same boat, sounds like next week is going to be very cold so no growth anyway. I'll wait at least 10 days before putting fert out unless forecast changes, it's too costly to waste. Try and get slurry out instead.

If you can travel the ground put it out, this time of year with longer days it's unlikely to be wasted and when the heat comes it will kick on. Put it out in that dry spell in wet ground here and made a big difference, did a bit of tracking but needs must, will go again this week

18 6 12 is hardly good enough this year after all the rain we got over the winter. You`ll need to be putting out a higher conc of the P and K or else the land will turn poor on you.

We got some out earlier, going on silage ground before the end of the week. Way later than normal but what can ya do

Would it be worth chancing a bit of urea for now and go with 18-6-12 later on when there is better conditions for spreading ?
The urea should work in the wetter conditions and give you grass with less risk of it being wasted and you could worry about the p & k later in the year when there is better uptake .
Its been a crap spring !

+1, soil temperatures are a bit low still. I'd be inclined to get something out anyway while it's dry enough to travel.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Just after collecting 1 tonne of gramlime here. Any issues as to why it couldn't be spread it at the moment ? Was going to belt away.

I hope not - I threw out a bit last Saturday, and had a lad in spreading ground lime yesterday...
I would have thought this is great weather for it?

Was round on land with quad last two evenings, the last 3/4 days have soaked ground well, going to chance out a few tonne 18:6:12 tomorrow all going well.

While temperatures are meant to drop next week time is moving on so going to get fertiliser as knowing our luck the weather will break again soon!

Anyone any idea what soil temp is up at yet. I asked I'm the coop today and was told it was measured at 8C last week.

    Go onto met eireann website.
    Look up yesterday's weather.
It will give all the weather stations and their soil temps.
On the desktop version not sure of mobile version.

had a few tonne left over, will do about 100 acres first cut, btw land is drying out very quickly, finished rolling yesterday, reckon today would be too late as ground would be too dry

Didn't go near the 'Census' yet but got 6 tonne 18:6:12 out between the showers yday and today.

Know soil temps not that high but such was rain all winter that was leaving slight tracks on spots so with the rain forecasted from middle of week on its a case of get it out and hope weather gets milder in time.
As matter of interest Whelan 2 ....what's the mix in that Silage Elite...is it good for meadows for round bale silage?
