    Hi,
I have a 1 month old calf with scour. Have gave him bimastat the last 2 days but no improvement. He is suckling cow ok. Might have caught a cold as he is in and out of slatted shed to reasonably open field. Any advice?

What colour is it, is there blood in it, is it very watery?

    Yellow, watery no blood

I've two ten day old calves with lots of yellow water coming out of them, they're lively and in good form tho. I'm giving them Norodine injection for four days, it usually does the trick here.
If it was green stuff or had blood in it I'd be more worried about it.

The weather is ****e at the moment and the change of environment could be something to do with with the scour. Personally (weather permitting) I prefer calves to be out in a paddock rather than in a drafty slatted unit.
At a month old your calf is strong and the scour could be a result of the change of diet in it's dam. She has now access to grass which enriches her milk. As long as the calf has shelter from North/East winds then I reckon it will be fine. Is he vaccinated for pneumonia.

thanks base price. Cow is on silage only as she can't go out (only calves can). Calf not vaccinated for pneumonia so I think I better get some antibiotics into him now?

I'd give him something to cover him myself and I'd get a scour quick test off a vet. Tell you straight away if it's anything sinister

Had a 7day old calf down with crypto lastweek, bad form and weak, watery smelly scour for a day then started to have blood in it,got scour test in vet, came back positive for crypto 10 mins later, got halocur and gave her 10ml per day x7days,gave 2days of extra fluids every 2hours and happy to say she ran out to the field Saturday, alot of going around according to the vet

Some day I'll get my head around all these different types of scour. I've had both crypto and coccidiosis here. I'm continuously watching calves dunging. From what I see' every calf gets some type of scour. Even the cow bulling will cause it.
