Tracking question

My van had wear on the inside front left tyre.

Had a new tyre fitted and tracking done a month ago.

Now there's wear starting on the inside of the front right and the van goes to left when the steering wheel is in the straight ahead position. (The steering wheel was like this when I drove out.)

Had a quick look with string and stands (I know:rolleyes:) and there's slight toe in on front left and slight toe out on right with steering straight ahead. No wear on left.

I really can't be arced going back to the same place and don't mind adjusting the track rod.

If I toe in the right will it help straighten the steering?

    Or just go somewhere else.

Transit jumbo twin rear btw. No camber, ends are ok, good tyres on rear.

    Hmm.
You said initially there was wear on inside front left tyre.
It's impossible this was caused by incorrect toe. It must have been either incorrect camber on front left wheel, or some loose suspension parts.

If toe was out, then wear would be equal on both front tyres.

Also I think it's impossible what you are saying, that with steering wheel straight, your left wheel is toe in (meaning it's slightly turning right) and right wheel is toe out (which also means it's slightly turning right).
In that case your van would be turning right with steering wheel straight, and you say it's opposite - that it's turning left.

I think you got mixed up with something here.

Or really there is something loose big time in your suspension.

    Its very weird alright.

The printout I was given stated front camber was ok at start and end and that rear camber also was but both f and r are different (within limits ) on final reading.

Fixed rear camber can't have changed during tracking surely??

Not weird or impossible at all, it is caused by excessive toe out,it will give you inside tyre wear on right side. Car is pulling to the left because of incorrect thrust line, its dragging from the rear. Also camber has to be huge to cause uneven tyre wear. Time for a visit to a good wheel alignment shop.

Can you explain, how can excessive toe out cause inside tyre wear only on tyre on one side?

    That's my thoughts really.

The original complaint, just wear on the inside of the front left wasn't due to camber, because it's not wearing now and there are no camber adjustments, plus the steering wheel went into the place straight and now it's off centre!

If there was something wrong with the camber on the front left when it went in, it certainly wasn't fixed there because it can't be adjusted.

Just to say I'm not sure about it pulling to the left drove it again today and maybe I'm just over compensating for the steering wheel being not being in the straight ahead position.
Going slightly left when held straight.

    Confused. .

Sorry for the late reply got lost here due to work. As I said previously if tracking was not done properly then thrust will be out meaning steering will be done from the rear as the car tries to follow the thrust line.

Cinio toe out will give inside tyre wear, excesssive toe in results in outer wear.
