You can't post HTML anywhere...

It was removed because there was too much stress being caused by people's ability to embed images into AH threads.

People like me who will just post gifs, at the moment I can only post the link and not slow down the internet.

ok ... but I can even add a image to this post (if I wanted to) and numerous other groups on boards (and no not pictures of pussy lol) so why is AH excluded - plus, AH accepts youtube links even though it wont let you post up images (and no-ones posting youtube videos of pussies up on there lol)

Cause you'd end up with AH threads full of nothing but pictures, Youtube videos are not the same as you have to play a video to see what it is properly. An image doesn't work like this.

I dont think people are quite grasping in what I am getting at - there are a lot of departments on the boards.ie forum ... a lot of them you can (if you wish) add a jpg

Because as Dav said earlier this facility was deliberately removed from AH.

I honestly don't know if it would devolve into nothing but threads of images as quickly as people might expect, memes and gifs are meant to be funny, AH has a lot of.. negative.. society and gender threads at the moment where you are not going to find much to relate memes to, which I say as a frequent poster and lover of gifs/memes on the other forums I visit. Some sillier threads would be full of pics of course but I don't think the forum would

If I remember correctly one of the reasons that the img function was curtailed in AH was people posting up porn pictures on threads as well. The fact that they added strain on the servers at a time when resources were scarce was also a mitigating factor, after all AH generates a large amount of the traffic on the site.

Ah right now it's beginning to make sense, thanks. And I suppose the title of the forum 'after hours' most probably was an indication to some that it was ok to post up pictures like that, maybe they thought it was an after the watershed adult group, mind you the role of moderaters are there to take down risky stuff no? And ban users that abuse the rules no?

Why allow any image posting then on any groups then on boards, because if users are going to to abuse rules and post unsuitable images on AH then surely they are going to post them on other groups no?

AH is crazy busy and it is believed that it will be saturated in lolcats and .gifs if images are allowed. There are plenty of places to post your images, AH is one of the few places you can't, what's the issue?

No, I'm just looking at if I post something on AH and I just want to add a (innocent picture) tied to the subject I can't ..... yet I could add a YouTube video if I wanted to. My original question was is why that you cannot add an image on AH.... but you can add a YouTube video. Seems a bit dis-jointed to me

You can add a link to your image.

If the place filled up with videos then maybe it would be looked at.

I think some of the stuff that was posted may have been more than a bit risky! It's a shame that the 99.9% lose out.

I think the word porn may have conjured up too softcore/legal an image in your mind as to what was being posted. The problem wasn't genuine users posting up something a bit risque.

YouTube videos are pretty safe content wise, and you've to press play so you won't get s NSFW shock.

I remember times years ago where a thread might pop up randomly in After Hours at night with absolutely horrific picture content.

Imagine accidentally opening something like that at work.

If you need to add a link to an image, just post the link.

Cool Vids, Pics and Links used to be a subforum to AH where the "look at this cool thing I found" threads were moved to.
It has since become its own forum.
