Renewal of GNIB card

Hi, folks. I am the American wife of an Irish citizen, and I have been renewing my GNIB card (stamp 4) annually. Someone here in town told me they knew another spouse of an Irish citizen who was able to renew their card for a longer period (three years in that case). I will probably not be applying for citizenship for another two or three years because I am trying to build a solid work history before I apply. I have plenty of time remaining on my passport. It would reassure my employer quite a lot if I could do this. Is it still done?

the experience of my wife, was that the first one or two renewals were for a year or two, and then to the Expiration date of her passport. The GNIB card renewal date can never exceed the renewal date of the relevant passport.

Good to know. I'll ask the nice guard about it when we go in. Thanks :)

Get your re entry one done at the same time, too.
Saves a lot of money over all.

I didn't think of that. Do I need one if I am not a visa required national?

No, you do not need the re-entry Visa, and it would be free anyway, as the Spouse of an Irish National.

Oops, found this thread again quite by accident.

For those following along at home... it so happened that when I went to get my GNIB card renewed, it turned out that the official did give me three years. This is less than the remaining validity of my passport, but still nice to have.
