Education and Training Options Fair - mandatory attendance?

I did a search but didn't find anything on this topic, hopefully a new thread is OK.

I just got a letter from Welfare about an "Education and Training Options Fair" later this month. It sounds like its pretty much the same event as the one held in the Clarion Hotel Liffey Valley last year that had all the drama (got cancelled midway through due to crowds, lots of people clamped etc), just in a different venue.

The letter states "Please note that failure to attend this event may be taken into account when your claim is next reviewed" but I don't think I'm going to be able to attend due to having a job interview at the same time.

Does anyone know what that "may be taken into account" means? Its a bit vague, will it or will it not? The letter doesn't give any option for letting them know I'm busy that date and time, which seems a bit of a problem if attendance is mandatory.

Just take the letter to your local Welfare office along with the confirmation that you have a job interview on that day and it should be fine.
Ask whoever you speak to stamp and initial both documents.

I don't have any proof of the job interview at the moment - was just told to come in on the phone. And the jobs fair is in a couple of days time this week so I may not get a letter out to confirm it in time if I request one today.

Do you think I'll be OK without going in and doing this? The whole thing (and threat) just seems very vague.

You really need to contact your local SW office regarding the job interview being on the day of the job fair, if you ring you will have no proof that you notified them of your being unavailable on that day.
You are expected to go to the job fair as part of your obligation to look for work.
The easiest thing is to give them notification.
