Wrong reg on insurance disc

I just got a new disc from liberty .
Noticed it had the wrong reg.same year, same county but the number was miles off but started with the same 2 numbers.
Checked my old discs, also with liberty and they both had the wrong reg.
Does this mean I've been "technically" uninsured the last 2 years?
Luckily I've never needed to make a claim.

Check your policy documents, it all depends on what reg is in those but you definitely have to send the disc back and correct them.

Yeah you were uninsured. Generally when insurance companies send out / ask you to fill out proposal forms they tell you that you must ensure all details on the form are correct.

You may be insured if the proposal form has the correct registration but the certificate does not as it's the insurance company's fault for making mistakes on the certificate.

They may go back and screen the calls you made to them to make sure you gave them the right reg, if that's the case and it was their error, then yes you would have been insured.

check your registration documents tally with your car reg, wouldnt be the first time ive seen a car with wrong plates fitted or even different plates front and rear.

stick the reg into cartell.ie to check what car it matches (or check the docs to see that the details match your car)

Your quote may have been based on this car to make it either lower or higher => 1.0l would be lower but a 2.0l would be higher

You need to get it sorted ASAP as its probably a get out of jail free card for the insurance company in the even of a claim under a comprehensive policy. Plus if stopped by the guards they will take a very dim view of this! (whether it your fault or not)

Could be just an admin error. but also follow Mech1's and others advice

Ring Liberty and ask them to investigate it.

When I renew my car insurance I always get a letter asking to confirm details are correct. Did you get a similar letter OP?

    Ring asap.

You could also easily get into a major tangle with the Gardai who would be reasonable to assume you've someone else's disc displayed to get away with no issuance.

Driving uninsured will also potentially get you a driving ban and if you've ever seen a district traffic court in operation, you'll be unlikely to get much opportunity to defend it. It's high-speed summary stuff. I've seen drivers banned in cases that lasted all of 45 seconds.

    Probably did,
obviously didnt check them the first time .
The is the 3rd year where I just renewed the policy.
All the details of the car, make ,model, colour etc matched my own car

I would expect an insurance company to check the car against the registration database, for their own protection. So if they have a different number perhaps it is the same model as your car?

This suggests a measure of negligence on their part or perhaps they are charging you for a Merc!

You'd think they'd check the car on a database to make sure the details match up anyway as a matter of routine.
