It's funny they can have a liquidation sale but can't pay their ex employees their redundancy.

Not funny as the Government make the laws and we the people vote in the Government, So its actually our fault. :(

It's funny they can have a liquidation sale but can't pay their ex employees their redundancy.

The sale is to get rid of stock so funds can be raised to pay creditors.

    The employees are a creditor.

    Lol. That is hilarious!

Redundancy payments are guaranteed by the state. The ex-employees do not lose out.

Anyway, back on topic. It's not a great sale really. A couple of bargains but the blu-ray offers aren't great. CDs are a bit meh too.

Some decent boxsets on there for under 4euro. I got a good Clint EAstwood set for 3euro, there 's a few others that might make decent christmas stocking fillers too! Delivery is 2euro for one or many dvds so that's not bad!

@arrianalexander the state pay the redundancy when the employer can't afford to pay it.

In a Liquidation process employees are an unsecured creditor so secured creditors will be paid out of available funds first. If the employer has funds left over to pay redundancy they will pay it. If they do not have the full amount then the Government pay the monies and reclaim as much as possible back from the employer. If the employer has nothing left after paying secured creditors then the Government funds the full redundancy packet.

It can take weeks and in some cases months before redundancy payments are made when a company closes down.

Also Xtravision is no longer trading. A separate company is created and run by the Liquidator to sell off all stock and assets to raise finance.

Off topic now for a BA.

sorry I hijacked the thread, my emotions got he better of me, been an ex-employee, and seeing a company still trade ( HMV ) and have the state pay my redundancy because of loop hole has me a little angry. Not to mention the liquidator has made an error with the forms and we will have to fill out a RP50 form for the third time, whenever they get around to sending it out again. :( . rant and hijacking over, my apologies

Had I actually bought them then Yep I'd be pretty organised, I on the other hand just wasted time pondering the idea...... so not very organised in that sense unfortunately!

Actually some really good bargains in there.

Nothing jumping at me that I don't own already, but a really decent mix.

I remember when the Xtra Vision in Swords closed down and they had a firesale, I dropped a ton in there and walked out with a cardbox full of stuff. I guess its part of the problem that while there is good offers here, don't feel tempted to by phsyical

Will your order actually be delivered? There's one or two steals that Id love to get.

Important to know that they weren't in liquidation at that stage and stores were open.

All were delivered except one bluray out of one order (which I wasn't charged for).

Just to put the liquidation queries to bed.

Xtravision trading name is owned by Hilco. Hilco also own HMV trading name.

They then licensed the use of the name to different companies within their group - Xtravision retail, Xtravision online and HMV Xtravision.

The company operating Xtravision retail went bust even though Hilco put over €5m into it (they won't see a penny of this). Redundancy should have been paid, but newspaper reports say an error in paperwork occurred between the liquidators and dept of social protection and this is being corrected. - But it has nothing to do with Xtravision online or HMV.

All stock in xtravision retail was on retainment of the suppliers, so once they closed the stock returned to the suppliers.

Xtravision name continues as an online store and via vending machines. They are a separate legal entity.

In a way it was like an internal franchise system.

So both pre-owned marketplace and xtravision online are normal trading companies and neither have anything to do with the liquidation of xtravision retail.

    Bought 2 items.

One was clearly ex rental despite being offered for sale as new.

The other was a blu day box set. They sent me a DVD box set.....of a completely different show.

    Sigh.

I think there is a misconception that this is the liquidator selling this stock , what you have said is 100% correct. Hilco set up separate companies to protect their investments. Irony is , it was Xtra Vision/HMV stores who sent out the online orders. This is why there ended up with so many delays ,it was a backward system where the store would have to mark it as ship even though it wasn't . Some orders did ship from its warehouse (new releases film&game)so presumethey have put all orders through the warehouse and hmv stores now.

This is all seeming quite dodgy to buy from them now..
