Regret cancelling first "date"

So i've been on a dating site for a few months and was planning on going on a date with a guy. I sort of cancelled last minute ish for a few reasons which come to think of it seem really stupid now.I feel really bad about it. For one I was just so nervous, I haven't been on many dates myself and I'm not kind of used to it yet. (and it didn't really help that he was really good looking too). If it makes any difference to how much of an idiot I am, I'm only 20. I've never cancelled a date before this.

Anyway the thing is, I'm really regretting it now. I actually realized after I sent the text that it was a mistake. He seemed really interesting, haven't come across an interesting guy like that for awhile. I'm debating about whether I should tell him all this or would he think I'm just an idiot? Which actually he probably already does. He hasn't answered the cancellation text I sent which is fair. It's not that I'm lonely or anything, I could go on dates with a load of guys if I wanted I just quite fancied him.

Anyone have any advice? thanks for reading.

What is 'last minute ish' and what did you say in your text to him?

by last minute ish I mean the night before. In the text I sent I said I was having second thoughts about meeting up and that distance would be a problem. Not sure how I could then text him and say I was wrong about all that. I'd look like an idiot right?

I'd be inclined to leave it. Cancelling the night before isn't so bad so that in itself isn't a problem per se but the fact that you said you'd had second thoughts AND that distance is a problem for you may be a bit harder to explain. This coupled with the fact you don't actually know the guy suggests that it's best to let sleeping dogs lie. I guess it's a good learning experience for future.

What have you got to lose? He'll either agree to meet up again, or he won't.

No point not asking, if you think you might like him. Most people new to internet dating find it difficult - at least to start with.

You could try send him a message OP and just explain that you're sorry for cancelling. You have first date jitters and were nervous. Would you like to try again?

But be sure you're willing to go through with it this time. If he decides to respond and gives you another chance and is let down again then he'll just think you're a messer.

Tbh you cancelling the night before is not the issue here (me thinks), but that he did not even reply to that would make me rethink the interest in him.
But anyway, you could text him and ask if he is alright and then go from there, perhaps let him know you'd continue communication and then see where it leads.

Text him and let him know you were nervous about meeting up.

I did something similar with my ex gf I pulled out of date the day of it but she gave me a second chance when I told her about it.

Had a great 6 year relationship after that.

Better to have loved and lost then never loved at all.........while an absolute sickening say it holds and element of truth. Worst he can say is no!!! What about it if he does??? At least you tried and given you say there is obviously some distance between ya you wont need to worry about bumping into him

I personally would never think somebody was an idiot so long as they were truthful with me.

Go and text him and sure ye'll have a savage story to tell the grandchildren:P

Contact him again, as others have said, you have nothing to lose and if he is not interested or doesn't reply, you can then move on. I am kind of speaking from experience as well, big believer in second chances.
