Sand pit or table

I have the turtle sand pit and I find it great. There's a wee space on the side to sit on. The base is sturdy but the lid often blew away on stormy nights so you really need to secure it.
I got it last year and my daughter got great use out of it. I still have to clean it out for this year. My daughter loved it and I'm hoping she'll get as much use out of this year.

Would the picnic table styles be restrictive in that they've to sit down while playing? The turtle might be better for more freedom of movement.

If you're in any way crafty while getting ready for summer you might like this (on a slightly unrelated note!)

if you are going with the turtle type sand pit i found a cheaper solution was to buy a plastic storage box with a lid and use that as a sand pit, you can get them in all colours/designs, sizes and depths so you can buy the one that suits your needs best

ours was shallow but big enough for her to sit in if she wanted, it was also her favourite colour

and they are easy to store :)

I agree about table being restrictive. I thought table maybe better for my dogs? I don't know how it will pan out with them! If I had a pit the older dog may want to lie in it!!!!!! Or my son may be inclined to try and bury her or throw loads of sand at them!!! Or it could all be grand!

I think though I am leaning towards the turtle.

I got the turtle last year for my boy- he was 3 then, and I wouldn't get it if I had my time again. It's a bit small. It's alright if he's on his own, but not much use if there's more kids there. He's very tall, so the seat on the edge isn't much good to him. I'd be more inclined to buy a wooden one like this...

If I remember rightly, this one got bad reviews because the cover didn't fit, which is why I discounted it. There was someone selling them on adverts though, with a proper wooden cover- I should have paid the extra and got that one, in the interests of longevity!

Looked at the turtle and the shell - and plastic-wise i couldnt find a huge difference, shell was half the price of turtle though. Bought the shell and both kids have enough space. Only issue is that you need to weigh lid down in stronger winds as it will go flying.
