Gutter moss

Cleaned the gutters out today and I managed to half fill a 30 litre bucket (just the front) I seen that there is loads of tiny worms in the moss that is almost like compost in itself.

I was wondering if they are actually earth worms though!? How would they even get up on the roof in the first place. Perhaps a bird maybe eating an earth worm that managed to half escape and find refuge in the gutter then reproduce??

Anyhooo has anybody used gutter moss on a compost heap or would I be in for a world of hurt starting a new pile with it?
