It should be on them, check the opposite side of the tyre for them. What make are they?

Yeah I was thinking it could be the opposite side oh and they are Goldway. I took my wife's car for the test to which it failed on no E4 mark visible although they are Bridgestone again as you say it could be the opposite in that case wouldn't you think they would check both sides .
Anyway cheers for the input :)

Goldway really look like bogey tyres looking at reviews online, I wouldn't have a family member driving around in a car with them.

    Goldway never heard of them.

Check their compounds and ratings it may be safer to get rid if you cant find the e mark definitely get rid.

Right, I just said I'd go for the min price giving how tight things are they still came in about 50 quid each.

    Cheap for a reason.

    Do not skimp on tyres.

These are all that is keeping you and loved ones on the road.

Any tyres sold here should have the E mark. Avoid and query if they dont, but you will be most unlikely to find any.

I wouldnt worry about the brand of tyre. Nothing wrong with Goldways. The crucial thing is that they have a good tread on them and are undamaged. Not replacing worn or damaged tyres is really the only skimping you can do, and much better to stay ahead of the game on the cheaper better value Chinese ones, than running one of the big brand names to the bitter end.

Penalties on the new tyre regs come into force today.

Yep, it's not like it's an either/or choice of Goodyear asymmetrics or Goldways with no E Mark.
    There's so much middle ground.

I would expect you'd be entitled to a refund if there is no E mark on them.

Good tires vs cheap can equal life vs death.
probably the worst thing you can try to save money on.

Black ones. Cheap ones. Legal though since there are standards that must be met to sell tyres in Ireland whether the brand is considered 'premium' or not, and whether they sponsor football, PGA golf, etc, and take out big adds in the media, or not.
Always keep a good tread on them, no damage, and change them pretty shortly after the depth goes below 3mm.
Safe therefore, and uninfluenced by pat, trite, unscientific shiboleths like "they are your only contact with the road" (impressive insight that one), or the power of branding to sell you 'quality' that you dont really need, or exploited by a rather cynical and deceptive play for people's ignorance on what really influences their safety.

So you are saying tyres with a high % of plastic in them are no different than mainly rubber tyres??

I think you may review physics again...

Have a read again. Nowhere do I say that.
But see how you are being sucked into the power of the advertising.

So, all tyres sold here are identical. That's good to know.

Feck advertising, cheap tires can mean a bus length or two in the wet, Are Muppets really trying to justify this? Please don't tell me you have kids in you car?

I don't think anyone can even write off a premium brand altogether as they make different patterns and sizes that perform differently. some of pirelli's more basic tyres aren't amazing , some of their high performance tyres are great but wear quickly. I have a set of their Scorpion Zero's on my range rover and they're fantastic, had the same on my sorento years ago.

but id still rather a set of pirelli's cheapest tyres at 2mm than a brand new set of goldways/linglongs/triangles

If you said 4mm, or maybe even 3mm I might agree with you, but 2mm...

First of all Pirelli are dirt. Really dreadful in the wet.

On another note, the marking doesn't need to be E4. It can be E followed by any number. The 4 means it was approved in the Netherlands, E11 would mean the UK and E24 would be Ireland. :)
