Best tyre dressing

I've been using AG's Instant Tyre Dressing, it's not bad but not brilliant either. It looks good immediately after application but doesn't take long to fade.

Can anyone recommend a good tyre dressing to give a high gloss/wet look that has a bit of longevity?

Any of the 5 litre ones that have to be applied with a paint brush seem to be the best in my experience. 30-40 quid but will probably last 2/3 years depending on how often you wash your car. Autoglym actually do an industrial one as far as I know. Rain does make it disappear though!

My two favorites at the moment are Klean Freaks and Chemical Guys one.

It's a bit of a catch 22 when it comes to tyre dressing.
You want something durable, so that will usually mean something that is gel like. But the other issue is sling and dressings are often slightly sticky and attract dirt and dust.
Some people like high gloss, others like a darkening closer to a matte appearance.

I find 50Cal Cammo quite nice. It's a good balance between minimal sling and giving a nice appearance. One coat gives a deeper look. Two coats 20 mins apart gives a more glossy look.

Best to give any dressing a rub down with an old cloth to remove excess to limit sling.
I find that Megs Endurance Gel gives decent durability, don't like the shine but it's not bad when rubbed down, but detest the sling it leaves after even a short spin.

Plus 1 for Megs Endurance Gel i find it very good when applied with their applicator

Another +1 for 50.Cal actually, very easy to apply and great shine and longevity for a spray.

    Loved the wolfs Blackout.
But not available in the country anymore as far as I am aware.

I was a big fan of the Autoglym instant tyre one too. Used to use it a lot.

Picked up a bottle of endurance, but never really used it. Kept ploughing ahead with the AG Instant shine stuff. Eventually ran out and tried the Endurance, and I actually prefer the endurance. I don't know if a bottle will last longer with the same usage, but the finish is nice in my opinion, and lasted a bit longer than the AG stuff (I got about 4 days i think, before it was looking like it needed re-doing).

I'd like to be able ot get a 5ltr/25ltr (whichever) of Endurance, but they only seem to sell it in small consumer bottles? :(

EDIT: I did also try out the 5ltr carplan you can get on Halfords site. 'Tyre Slik'. I found it a bit shoddy, to be honest. You have to put loooads of it on and any water (rain, puddle, etc) seemed to completely wipe it off.

I use autosmart Highstyle! Does the job nicely, just give the tyres a good scrub with APC first!

Used klean freaks dressing yesterday and its very easy apply. Has a consistency like milk / cream so It was easy to apply. Sprays are handy but they go all over your bodywork / rims I find

I could never get this to give any sort of shine at all for me
How do you use the stuff correctly

All I ever got was a milky look to it

You need to scrub the tyres first.
This wil not give a shine, but it does give a beautiful natural effect.
Also for several washes after it keeps the tyres looking new.

    I dont like shiney tyres
This also have a very low sling rate, If none at all.

Do you spray it on then or just apply with a cloth instead?

I like the Megs Endurance gel too. Using AG at the moment and it's not as good.

I apply it with a tyre dressong sponge.

The klean freaks has lasted 24 hours so far :pac: It is parked on gravel so its holding up well. Looks like it will see me out as I only needed about 5-10ml to do 4 tyres

The "less is more" approach is best used with the Meguiars Endurance gel. I have their sponge applicator which does the job but could be better.

Found the KF one very good alright, have plenty left, Chemical Guys Tyre Gel and KF Dressing are my go to's now.

I found the AG stuff to be terrible also Sonax Xtreme Tyre Gel. No durability and sling. At least with Megs Endurance you get some durability.
My favourite has been Orchard AutoCares Glitz - no sling and fairly durable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,090 ✭✭✭markc1184

I like both Endurance and also Glitz. I use a brush to apply and then rub down with an applicator. Both have worked well for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,755 ✭✭✭ianobrien

I'm another for Orchard Glitz. I like the way the finish is not too "plastic" or too artificially shiny

I'm amazed that there isn't a more permanent coating for tyres yet. Something like CQUK or Gtechniq C1 for tyres.

I did read about some semi permanent nano coating there one time.
    I looked pureblack.
    Really looked class.
I must look it up again if I can find it.

    Cheers!

I suppose there's so much money being made from dressings that have to be applied regularly that most companies don't want a more permanent version!

Look how much hardship they undergo though. Wet, dry, gravel, dust, constant changes in heat, sidewalls flexing etc.

You also cant apply anything too permanent that could change the characteristic of the tyre. I remember if you were liberal with the AG instant tyre dressing the 325 would spin the wheels once or twice until it burned it off

I'm not looking for a tyre shine that will magically turn normal tyres into run flats with 1 application :pac:

Any updates on this from people who have been using it the last few weeks? Need to buy some this week. My car is black so it makes the tyres look grey. I have a spray at the moment and it just dissapears as soon as it hits the tyre.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 853 ✭✭✭edburg

Bit late but since post was bumped I will add ammonyc mud tyre gel to list of recommendations, leaves a nice matte natural look and lasts a good while for tyre trim.

Also used odd time autobrite tyre trim dressing this gives a wet look to tyres but not as long lasting on tyre but lasts well on trim.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 418 ✭✭Lekrub

I'm a fan of the wet look. But I might grab autobrite tyre trim if its really good on trim. I used thinners on mine to get wax off and used back to black but it didnt do much

For anyone searching next time I got this in Halfords 3 for 2 offer. Its pretty decent stuff. 538645?$pd_main_v2$

I used to use the Autoglym tyre shine and it was pretty good. Recently I bought Demon Tyre Shine and I was also impressed with it. Tyre shine lasted for over a week. Enough time to was the car and apply it again!

    Apply that very lightly
    even two light coats
Leave it to dry a bit and buff it. Otherwise it will sling all over your car.

It is decent stuff other than that.
