2002 Mercedes E220 Radio Replacement

So I've picked up the above car. Love it, except for having a cassette player and an additional cd player in the boot. Now, I haven't used cds in ages, let alone cassettes.

Anyway, I went to put in the Sony head unit from my last car, but she got no power. The Sony Hu has space for 2 rectangular connections, which I've plugged in. But on further inspection, the power cables for the Merc is separate to the two that go into the back of the Sony Hu.

My question is, had anyone any information on what cables I need to get to make this work? Mercedes stated they have an upgrade for it, but it's €1400!!! I'm at work so can't post pics but I will tomorrow.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with that car but can you not buy an iso adapter for it. They can be got on eBay and the like for small money, or if you want to get it in a bricks and mortar shop halfords do them.

Alternatively you might be able to swap the wires around on the connector so that they match up with the cars wiring.

I know very little about them myself, but I've heard they're not as straight forward as "less elite" cars. I'll probably head into Halfrauds tomorrow, see if there's something! I wouldn't go chopping wires, I have bad experiences with that!

So according to Halfords, there is no additional wiring required. The book skips all E220 models from 98 to 04! The dude in there reckons i may have to splice a wire or two to get power going to it...

I won't lie, i have no idea. The following picture is the back of the cassette player that's standard:

    This is what i have:

On the Merc one, only the 2 connectors immediately to the fight of the fuse fit into the Sony. The long flat one i'd imagine is for the steering wheel controls, and the one below the fuse is for the additional CD player (according to the guy in Halfords). Thing is, if i plug out that one (for the CD player), there is no power to the head unit. So that seems to be the problem one...

You don't have to cut and splice wires. You can remove the wires from the connector block and swap them around and match them up to the radio's wiring. You can get a specific removal tool online for this or you can make your own with a bit of steel wire.

However from the pic you posted it does look to me like an I so adapter is required.
