So a couple gets two automated letters in error and somehow the mirror thinks this is newsworthy and tries to use it to talk about repossessions?

What a complete waste of energy all round.

What a complete waste of energy all round.

That's what happens when we hand our lives over to computers I guess.

So much for their "back to basics" ad campaign. Still as bureaucratic and faceless as ever.

Heres my two cents, you can keep one, and give the other to PTSB.

He said: “This just demonstrates the uncaring attitude of banks to their customers.

    "This is so stupid.

“They are not dealing with people, they are dealing with accounts and they have got to start dealing with people.

“I think what happens is if you are behind, the system triggers it and it doesn’t matter what the figure is, whether it is one cent or five thousand or 55 thousand.”

Well done Ger O'Neill, you've figured out that a computer system doesn't care about people. Bravo.

Would people really rather pay for a system where every single letter sent out from a bank is written (on recycled paper, maybe in green or purple ink) by a real live human who has access to and has reviewed all the available information regarding the account? Because I've a feeling that might turn out to be VERY expensive.

And on the other hand, do the tabloid press, REALLY have nothing better to report on

People love a sad sack story

Reminds me of the "in court for putting up a satellite dish" story recently. it turned out that they had been warned multiple times and they had been accommodated in every single way possible. Some clowns chanced their arm going to media and got loads of facebook likes. Still had to pay the fine (rightly so)

I got a letter from a bank saying I owed 40c on an old account. I rang them. They said "your grand, don't worry about" and I got a letter within a week saying there was no balance. Job done

Send them a cheque for 2c.

    Then demand your change.

I hear they're sending Jonny 5 around to the gaff to recover the debt.
