€390 is the rate for the Auto based on Co2 emissions.

€290 is a typo as there is no current tax rate of €290. Might be €280 for the manual based on emissions.

€710 is the engine size, but there shouldn't be any 08 520d's still on engine size tax. Pretty sure all imports are put on Co2 tax regardless of when they were originally registered, and even if it was an Irish car registered before July, it would have been switched on to the much cheaper emissions tax when it was re-taxed.

Stick the reg into motortax.ie, could just be an error on the ad

Can confirm, my car is from 2008 and was imported last year. 08 Registration and it's on Co2 tax.

    Here is a 08 that's €710.

R.O.R, thanks for clarifying the 390/280 rate. Auto/manual got me :)

I just checked the registration on https://www.motortax.ie/OMT/motortaxinforeg.do and yeah it says 710 € with the engine cc tax band

I'm not sure if there's a way to change taxation, but I'd stick with the information on motortax.ie then for that specific car.

You can apply to back date the new system to January 2008 as it came into affect later in 2008. Possible owner didnt know and has been paying outrageous tax since.

You don't normally have to ask or apply for the lower rate, it's supposed to be an automatic thing.

Is it possible that it has an incorrectly reported CO2 emissions in the VRC and hence the upgrade to CO2 based tax would not be beneficial?

Also a pre-LCI '08 which is strange too!

Is there any chance that it is a very early model that somehow sat for a long time before reg and doesn't have the good emissions figures or could it be some kind of grey import that might not have the same emissions as cars produced for Europe?
It is very strange. Having myself bought a car in April 08 , there was absolutely nothing to do, bought 3 months tax on cc based system and it automatically dropped into the emmisions tax the next time.

08G612 has emissions of 185g, so would be €750 on emissions so cheaper on CC. Must have been sitting in stock for quite some time as it is Pre - LCI and they started to appear in March 07 ish.

Unsurprisingly, there's an insurance alert on that vehicle!

Does that mean it was crashed before?
