Difficulty getting phone back from repair

My son and I handed in his phone to a local phone/printing place. I would have been using the shop for faxing, scanning and colour printing a couple of times a month, so would know the guy who runs it. Gave in my son's iphone - asked for receipt - and he said sure I know you. He said he would have it fixed in 2 days. Week later and it's still apparently in the queue to be fixed. He told me he fixed them there in his shop initially, and I've seen him fixing phones there - and now apparently it's gone out to be fixed. Concerned now about getting it back. Any ideas??

Had this problem a few years ago trying to retrieve a phone from a "so - and - so".

Go back to the "phone repair shop". Tell the staff that the phone is recorded as an asset in your business, and that you need it back as part of the audit trail for the accountant/auditor etc.

That's how I got my phone back - a week later and in the same condition as it was given in.

@5rtytry56 - Honesty is usually the best policy. Encouraging the OP to lie is not ethical, and by starting to lie, you're creating a web of falsehoods that can trip you up.
