Damage to car by GAA gate? Are they liable?

As I dropped my son to a soccer match at the local GAA grounds, a heavy metal gate (which was open but not tied back) caught the wind and slammed shut, causing 220 euro worth of damage to my car. I contacted the chairperson by phone but he said there is a sign up saying the GAA are not liable for any damage caused to vehicles while in their grounds. Surely this is a different matter, as the damage was caused by GAA property, rather than by something else while on their property. Don't they have insurance for these kind of things? Any advice would be welcome, thanks.

If you phrased that as a hypothetical, it might not be so obvious that you're looking for free legal advice...

Threaten to report the GAA club for holding a soccer match on their grounds and you might get some joy.

Putting a sign on my car windows saying that the driver is not liable for any crashes probably wouldnt stand up in court, But not a lawyer so no idea where you would stand legally

Rule 42 was just for Croke Park.

There was a club in Longford fined recently for hold a soccer camp on their grounds.

Just send them a solicitors letter with the damages clearly explained and costed. You didn't drive into the gate, the gate was not secure and moved into your car.
    Of course they have insurance.
If they are negligent, they after liable.
The claim will be significantly more than 220 if you have to go via solicitor.

It was a soccer match. Thanks mickdw. I was going to do just that but thought someone might have had a similar experience or know how these clubs work better than I do.

All of these signs only have effect if you could have seen them before the incident.

Yeah, once they let women in, things went rapidly downhill. Not sure what's next.

surely if a gate blew and hit someone they would be liable so what difference does a car make. they left the gate in an unsafe manner and caused damage to the publics property

It is not possible to contract out of liability for personal injury caused by negligence. It is possible to contract out of liability for damage to property caused by negligence. That is the difference.
