    Hi,
we're building an extension in the back garden and after digging down to foundation level there's a lot of water there.
Currently waiting for professional advice but just wondering in the meantime if anyone else has encountered this problem when building. Doesn't seem to be any burst pipes and not in a flooding area.

could be a natural spring, or an old land drain

your professional should be able to advise on remedial works

Water table is high at the moment, had a similar situation some years ago building a porch at front of house.. the further they dug the wetter it got.... engineer told contractors to put in a "raft" foundation" if I remember correctly. That was 18 years ago...never any movement on it since.
