Illness induced boredom

    I am very bored as i cannot work due to illness. cannot do hobby/garden or go for a walk. too tired to read or watch a film and who wants to watch a film in the middle of the day. Has anyone any solutions. No one around to have coffee with

    Does your illness make you tired? Personally, reading would probably be top of my list so maybe you just need to find some really good books to engage you properly? There are any number of book clubs around, contact your local library for details. Are you creative at all? Artistic pursuits like glass painting can be very absorbing. You can now get adult colouring books too which are used to promote mindfulness and that can be very therapeutic. Or knitting and sewing (not my forte!) can be very relaxing. Would you be well enough to volunteer for an hour or two with the likes of SVDP? Cooking is also a wonderful outlet. Do you enjoy trying new foods? Maybe tackling a particular cuisine head on or perfecting some signature dishes? Baking is also great although not so good if you're at home a lot as you'll literally just eat all the pies! All of the aforementioned are fairly low intensity pursuits but will keep you occupied!

    yes very tired. too tired to work/study do voluntary
    i have loads of books to tired to read. i do not paint and anyway it is boring in house. too tired to cook sometimes and that is house as well. i want to be out. gardening or studing

    How about can you get to a park or a back garden even and listen to the radio? Current events / music / podcasts on interesting things. I'm sure you could find stuff on gardening on YouTube that you could watch / listen to, and that you would genuinely find interesting.

    Engage on discussions on the likes of boards if you can't get out right now through tiredness or fatigue.

    Whether you're wrecked from being ill, or you're wrecked from a combination of being ill and its anti-social side effects, engaging in stuff like this could help. And, you could start conversations on your experiences and points of view, get peoples' thoughts and debate on them. I'm sure you have plenty to say but you're pure lacking stimulation.

    You would need some help getting set up and I don't know if you have support but if you had a table outside and a chair and your plants and compost ready to go you could maybe plant up a window box?
    Thereafter you would have some light work to do watering it (maybe with a v. small watering can) and taking off dead leaves and flowers to keep it looking nice.

    My sister has from lymes disease so has times when she just cannot do anything even though she would love to so I can understand your situation.

    What she does is one weekend she will make an effort to do something like go to the cinema or out for a meal, but knowing that this will make her unable to do anything for the next three weekends at least. She is also back at work now so tries to keep her energy mostly for that.

    Depression can set in very easily in these situations. And worse still until she was diagnosed finally most doctors told her she just had depression and gave her tablets to take with no further tests!

    What helps her a lot are support groups on facebook as she can chat to people in the same situation.

    Not being smart here, but you have shot down all the suggestions given, and seem determined to do something you can't due to your illness. You need to rest and gain your energy back.


    Also, you want to study, there are a vast amount of online podcasts and videos on YouTube that you could listen to sitting in the garden. Khanacademy would be excellent if you are interested in science or maths.

    Could you afford some of those mobile wheelchairs / scooters and drive for half an hour around the block or to the shop?
    Could be a good option to go out do something but not too physically demanding?

    all that being sick bores me. i do not want those limitations. and i do not have the mental energy to study from podcast if i had i would be studying. i do not have the mental concentration to edit photos let alone study from podcasts

    Are you linked in with an Occupational Therapist? Their role is to find ways around issues of access/mobility/ activities of daily living so they may be able to get you a scooter and also support you in becoming more independent and getting out to pursue your hobbies.

    OP- you have to accept your current limitations. You want to get out, garden etc but you say that you're too physically tired. Fine, so find something else that you can do without over-exerting yourself. As posters have said, reading about gardening, or watching shows is a good alternative.

    Ignoring all the suggestions here because they don't fit in with what you want to do is not helpful for you. You're actually impeding yourself. Try something at least once before dismissing it

    I wondered if you would consider getting those scooters for disabled to help you move around outside?
    Also is there some centre near you that you could drive like that to, where people with disabilities meet and socialize, play a game of chess or similar?
    You could do little today, then little more next time and so perhaps get there where you are yearning to be.
