Selling car - NCT mileage f*ckup

We're trying to sell our car to buy a family car.

We've just spotted that the most recent NCT cert (just over a year ago) has the Odo reading recorded in miles rather than KM.

To double check I've checked the service history and previous Certs.

The previous Certs just have the reading and no reference to miles or km. The readings line up (we've done the last 2-3 tests) and the cars not been clocked.

Will the NCT re issue a cert and record the Odo reading properly?

Not worth the hassle. Any buyer who is looking that carefully at certs, of which there is very few, will spot the mistake and its easily explained away. I've often come across it when looking at cars for people, its not a big deal. In fact, a car having anything more than the last cert is a huge find to start with!

Does it not come up as a mileage discrepancy though as the next cert in theory should be km and it will look like someone skimmed 50k off the clock!

True, but one must take all the information available. Motor Check reports are not fool proof. In fact, I'd take the NCT sheet as gospel, look at the service history, other sources and correlate. I usually completely ignore the measuring value, be it km or miles, as its nearly always wrong or omitted even in service books or NCT certs.

To be honest, you're putting far too much faith in the average buyer. Has NCT and Tax? Sure may as well be fresh off the factory line!:pac:

If only it were so easy! I'm gonna call them tomorrow because I think it's a major issue as in my eyes it completely knocks the resale potential. Even look at the dedicated thread here for clocked cars and mileage discrepancy

Same thing happened to me this evening, just sent them a mail there so hopefully they rectify it.

I got sorted but it took a lot of threats of legal action before they would do anything as the nct was over 6 months ago.

They actually said it was my fault because I didn't check the mileage.

I sent her back to her own paperwork where it stated that the tester before giving you the cert is supposed to ask is the mileage correct. I've been for four tests in the last year with different cars and not once was I asked about the mileage.

In the end I told them they can either fix the cert or give me the cash value for the car a effectively the car was worthless due to a mileage discrepancy which will make it look like it was clocked.

They told me to bring the car back to prove the Odo was only in KM and then they issued a new cert in the post.

It's bad form I felt that they incorrectly recorded the mileage and then tried to blame me for it!

Even another test recently, just to show how much of a scam the test is, my car failed on tracking, after just being done in the garage opposite. Asked them to put it through a different lane to test the tracking and it passed!!!!

Not only that, it passed with two bushes gone in the front driver side!

The whole system is a joke!
