Does anyone know of any treatment to keep water from soaking into a wooden fence. When the gate gets saturated it gets heavy and swollen and won't close as it won't line up with the latch. It has some oil based cuprinol but it does not stop it getting saturated

Why would you want to open and close a fence?

I assume its a fence with a gate in it somewhere.

@ the OP. There is no product out there (bar wrapping in plastic/shrink wrap) that is 100% water or moisture repellent. You can apply away at preservative but thats just what it is...preservative, but it still wont fully protect the wood from water. It helps but isnt foolproof. My advice is to remove the gate off the hinges (if necessary) when wet and plane a bit off the wood to ensure its working correctly and then apply several coats of the preservative again before exposing it to the elements.
