Hi, looking to see how to sort out visas for an African safari trip. I'm heading away near the end of may, going to Tanzania and zanibar and with a connecting flight home in zenya, can I get visas at the airport or what's the best way, these type of things get me anxious so really would love some advice, thanks

Tanzania you can get a visa on arrival it's $100 for Irish citizens. Not sure about the Kenyan visa but if you are just connecting through Nairobi you won't need one. Only if you will be leaving the airport

In Kenya you will also be able to get a visa on arrival at the immigration desk just as you come off the plane. Last time I was there in 2013 if I remember correctly it was about $50 US each, so bring US dollars. Also you say how long your stay will be (I recommend giving a couple of days longer in case you face any delays returning, flights delayed etc.) Bon voyage!

Visa for Kenya now needs to be arranged in advance online.

Make sure to print out the confirmations and bring them with you...
They dont have your visa readily available in their computer systems like with the ESTA in the States

I went to Zanzibar last year, flew to Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania first and I got my visa there. It was $50 (american dollars) and just had to fill out a form and show my passport. So you should be able to get your visa when you land in Zanzibar..I'm not sure about a visa for Kenya.

That's great, thought 100 was a bit rich, how long does it take to get processed there and would card payment do or should I bring dollars for it, thanks

Do you have an Irish passport? The price used to be $100 for Irish and American passport holders and $50 for most other nationalities.

It's technically $100 for an Irish passport but you might get lucky (like I did) and get someone who doesn't read your passport properly and only charge you $50. However, when I was getting the ferry from Zanzibar back to Dar, they tried to change me the extra €50. I told them I was leaving the country in 24 hours and had no more cash

EDIT:I just checked on the dfa website and it says it's $50 now so that must have changed. https://www.dfa.ie/travel/travel-advice/a-z-list-of-countries/tanzania/

If you are getting the Tanzania visa you can get it as you cross the border from Kenya.
Its $50 now. Used to be free for Irish citizens.
You will still get it free if you state that you understand that the visa is free for Irish citizens when applying. We did that last year and about 3 years before and it worked.
When you queue up just ask can you get the free visa for Irish citizens.
No free visa for Kenya though.
Dont give anyone any money anywhere else if they ask for it, even police, they are on a con.
Once you have the visa you have it.

Only a few minutes. I'm not sure if they have the facilities for card payments so I'd advise to bring dollars.

I also found that people especially at the airport will try and take your bags to the car or offer to help you with taxis etc and then want to be paid for it. They seem to target tourists so beware if you do not want this.
