    Hi all

Myself and my girlfriend are looking at spending a week in Sicily in October.

We will fly into Palermo and hire a car to get ourselves around. Apart from a few nights in Taormina where else would you recommend visiting/staying?

    Thanks

    Bull

Cefalu, on the North Coast is a nice seaside town, and a good base for exploring Palermo. Great food.

Don't miss the Aeolian Islands - ferries go from Messina and they're absolutely gorgeous. See the volcano at Stromboli and eat fabulous seafood in Lipari. You won't need a car for this bit - some of the islands are car-free.

Catania is an interesting town with good nightlife.

Eat spaghetti with clams, and pasta alla norma and drink granita. The ice-cream is fantastic, and, as they say in The Godfather, "don't forget the cannoli".

Love Sicily - would love to go back

We went a couple of years ago and had a car

Highlights: Castellanmare del Golfo - little fishing town, lovely restaurants, bars and Gelatto shops! Great spot for lunch
Park your car in Trapani and get the cable car to Erice. Amazing town - we went in the evening and had dinner there. Sitting outside with the table and chairs wobbling on the cobblestones :D
Scopello is another lovely town - you have to park outside in the big car park as its too small for cars. Large square- tree lined - with lovely bars and restaurants. We went several times for lunch and dinner. Just sit and watch the world go by!

    So jealous!

Drive up and around Mt Ethna and visit some of old eruption areas. When we were there Ethna was erupting and you could see the lava at night from Taormina.

Visit Savoca where the Godfather was filmed and have a drink in Bar Vitelli. It looks exactly as it did in the movie and you can sit in Al Pacino's chair and say "There are people who'd pay a lot of money for that information"

Taormina is fantastic (especially for food)
