    Just wondering if there is a warranty on new tyres, if so what does it cover?

    It depends on the tyre. Some manufacturers give a certain mileage warranty. The guys in the motoring forum may have something more specific.

    Warranties are offered by the manufacturer, and each manufacturer can set their own terms and conditions. So what is true for one may not be true for the others.

    Sale of goods act applies.

    If there's a fault with a tyre that can be shown to be caused by how it was made or how it was fitted you have rights vs. the place that sold it to you, nevermind the manufacturer.

    The debatable bit would be what is considered a reasonable life for a tyre.

    Years ago bought a set of goodyears from online retailer. One of them delaminated quickly. Wrote to retailer, sent photos, got a claim form - filled and sent back.

    Courier came, brought new one and took the bad one away.

    So, yes, there obviously is a warranty on new tyres alright.

    There can be manufacturer's warranty and seller's warranty.
    It depends on the manufacturer and seller.

    What brand are these "hypothetical" tyres and how long have you had them?

    no mine re fine, I just got a slow puncture today and it started me wondering. no intentions of looking at warranty for a puncture obviously, but thinking do people go back to the tyre place and demand replacements or refunds. couldn't think of how you could but at the same time youve made a purchase so you have consumer rights.

    Yes, you go back to the seller, who in turn may send you to the manufacturer.
    This of course if the tyres show premature wear or a design problem.

    In my last quest for tyres one place was selling Cooper tyres, they said if you damage/kerb badly the sidewall within the first x* mm of wear, Cooper will replace the tyre, it was part of the warranty.

    *can't remember the value of x, but think it was around 4mm. I didn't buy them. Just thought it was interesting.

    YOur contract is with the retailer. It's up to them if they want to go back to the manufacturer.
