Direct approach?

    So, I've applied for a couple of roles in my field in the past number of weeks. Feedback has been positive in all my ventures, except one.

    One recruiter, who works for a large, well known and reputable agency interviewed me for a role. The interview was over in 10 minutes and to be honest, I left the office feeling very underwhelmed. I didn't think she made too much of a deal about my experience or exposure in terms of putting me forward for this role. Can't really put my finger on it as such, but, I didn't think she would do a good job 'selling' me to this company who were recruiting.

    In the meantime, I have had initial interviews with a few other recruiters and the experience was totally different. They were a hell of a lot more positive about my prospects and told me that they were happy that they could place me when the right role comes along. One of them even suggested a contractor who would build my CV from scratch to help my job hunting going forward which I availed of.....

    Anyway, the original recruiter comes back two weeks later telling me that she has discussed me with her client and that they are not going to proceed with my application as they feel my experience is not strong enough. I was not surprised as I had originally had a bad vibe from her. I suspect that she did in fact discuss my CV with her client but if she conducted that phone call with the same indifference as the interview she held with me, its no surprise that the client company didn't bite.

    So my question is as follows.

    The company are still hunting for candidates for these roles. They have placed the jobs with other agencies and advertised the roles themselves. Its obvious they are not getting what they are looking for. I suspect that if I got in front of the interview panel for this company, I would have a serious chance of getting this position. So, should I try and go to them direct? Or should I go to another recruiter and tell them of my experience and that I am investigating the idea of making contact with this company again?

    Sorry if the OP is long winded but I needed to give context...

    Is a second approach frowned upon or is it accepted?

    I would absolutely apply directly - nothing to lose!

    Recruiters only get paid if you get a job they out you forward for. If the recruiter didn't put you forward it seems that they felt so strongly that you wouldn't succeed that they weren't even willing to take a chance on you.
    While that isn't ideal, I'd see what I can learn from this, where might they have felt you were weak and so on.

    If you apply direct and are unsuccessful, you may jeopardize an opportunity with that company in a year or so when you may be more suited.

    Even the 2nd recruiter suggested building your cv, that's also a sign thar there's room for further preparation.

    My advice would be to not apply directly in this instance but good luck in continuing the job search.

    That was my gut instinct. WRT the second recruiter telling me to improve my CV, that's done. They though it was a huge improvement. In relation to going direct, I was apprehensive about it for the reasons you've outlined. Just wanted to sound people out on if it could be construed as a positive or a negative.

    If the recruiter has put your CV forward and the client has actually rejected you, it would reflect poorly on you to go forward yourself. It would seem like you're not listening or not paying attention to where your CV goes.
    Just something to consider!
