Some stuff you may want to check out, in various counties around Ireland. I love it every year

With it coming in the same week as Dark Souls 3 and Record Store Day my wallet is a bit skint at the moment and I probably won't be able to make it to anything.

Hope all goes well and everyone has a good time though.

Not going to be able to see a single thing this year and telling work that you need a day off to go see the new Sion Sono film is not something employers seem to appreciate.

Very happy to have helped put this together this year. I highly recommend checking out some of the smaller films alongside the bigger names: Chigasaki Story, Sanchu Uprising and Three Stories of Love are particularly impressive films that are unfortunately likely to disappear into the ether of obscurity after their festival screenings.

Really wish Miss Hokusai was showing in dublin. The screening of Hana and Alice seems fairly tight with the Marnie screening right after.

Fair play, it's great to have something like this in town. I'll try and get down to the Lighthouse and check out some of your recommendations.

It's Access Cinema and the Embassy who as ever have been putting in the heavy lifting this year, they deserve plenty of credit for pulling it together every year :)

Those films I mentioned were just three that I was particularly fond of and deserve some extra attention, although the likes of Tag and Hana & Alice are particularly excellent too (I'd count them as slightly higher visibility, although alas still destined to relative obscurity). Haven't had an opportunity to see Marnie, Boy and The Beast and a couple of others myself yet, so looking forward to hopefully catching them over the next few days too!

    Loved Marnie, great film.

Just have to choose the top few to go to now, choices choices.

Hana and Alice was much better than I was expecting. I wasn't expecting it to be great since the photoshop-filter backgrounds and rotoscoped characters made it so low budget looking but the main characters were quite fun and endearing.

Has anyone seen 100 Yen Love or the Emperor in August? Both look quite good and considering going to see one of them.

It is indeed nice to see Shinji Iwai back on form, and if the anime filter means more people get to see it than saw the delightful original than that's particularly nice :) Novel and clever way to make a prequel that doesn't feel redundant.

Sadly, there are no more screenings of either. Emperor in August is one of the few films showing I haven't seen, but 100 Yen Love is a delight and will hopefully get a wider release somewhere along the line.

I am a monk was pretty good. No strong thoughts on it but it was enjoyable.

Does anyone know if Jokyo Monogatari has or will be getting a dvd/blu/digital release? It looks interesting but its exteremly unlikely I'll be able to make the showing.

Unfortunate that the utterly lovely Our Little Sister is being released the same weekend as this festival. Hope it plays for longer than a week at the IFI at least.
